pp2533We’re catching onto some amazing trends that help our homes and our world by using renewable resources. Going green blogs are on fire with ideas that are often very easy to implement. Most of what we do in our home to help the environment actually saves us money.

Perfectly natural, bamboo is a new miraculous material for western civilization but among the oldest in the world. Structurally harder than Maple, Bamboo is a member of the grass family and doesn’t need the care that most wood boards require. Bamboo boards are lightweight and can double as serving trays. The hard surface means fewer nicks and slices that harbor bacteria. Bamboo boards are kitchen tools that are an attractive and useful complement to any kitchen.

39527They may as well be on the counter clean and ready when I wake up because without the glass cutting board and a sharp knife we can hardly get through breakfast. Somebody wants fresh fruit chopped in their cereal, or we need to chop the onions and garlic for an omelet.

Before lunch arrives we’re cutting up apple wedges, carrots or celery. We almost make it through lunch unless we’ve baked homemade bread which may require a different knife, but still requires the cutting board.

Finally coming to the end of the day we’re chopping and slicing for dinner, which means the cutting board and knife can call it a day. Mr. Grill can put his feet up, while his poor wife keeps on working.

31913-1When we think of housewarming or wedding gifts we can’t forget the likelihood that for the first time in their lives these people are going to either start learning how to cook or how to cook for each other. This is one of the reasons I’m partial to long courtships because dates in restaurants just don’t reveal enough about our tastes.

The new cook needs all the help they can get which includes recipes, cookware and all the cooking utensils necessary to follow the recipes. Our advice to them should be to keep it simple at first and always pay attention to the seasoning. Any serious relationship or new home should also have plenty of spice in the kitchen.

38978We all have our own favorite methods of chopping and slicing, as well as favorite tools to accomplish the task. Regardless of which knife or cutting board I select, onions still make me more emotional than any of my kitchen utensils.

I’ll admit many friends of mine have shown me some pretty amazing gadgets they’ve acquired over the years. After explaining what wonders these contraptions perform I always ask how often they use them. Then they show me their favorite knife and cutting board.

39527Food preparation doesn’t have to be mundane or boring when we can spice up even the aspect of slicing and dicing. When we’re chopping vegetables on a colorful glass cutting board the rewards aren’t just limited to the bacteria resistance of the tempered glass. Bright exciting colors enhance our work experience and make the job more enjoyable.

If we employ a lot of kitchen helpers it might be handy to have more than one of these beauties available. Twice as much work in half the amount of time always makes my cooking experience more enjoyable.

39527Before the end of any food prep even the most careful cook can forget something. If we know about bacteria and the dangers of moving from foods that will be cooked to those that will be served raw, we know that washing our knives and cutting boards is essential to cooking hygiene.

To save time and washing in between slicing and chopping we can move from the salad items to meats without missing a beat. However if we remember we didn’t slice the olives, or we need to chop more carrots, having a glass cutting board makes that process easier. They resist bacteria and clean up easily which gives us peace of mind.
