Salt And Pepper Shakers In The Cruet Set

October 19, 2009

37487Having spent time in England I’m aware that most people are looking for more than salt on their fries (or chips as the locals call them) and usually expect to find at least vinegar on the table. I was a bigger fan of ketchup when I was younger, but was raised to keep it stored in the refrigerator. Rarely have I seen people reach for mustard as a common condiment.

While each of us has a preference, having the salt and pepper shakers as part of the cruet set will likely meet the needs of most. With the ever growing popularity of balsamic vinegar I’m thinking of slipping that out on the daily table setting. Then I’ll be ready to whip up a batch of fish and chips.

A Rooster Placemat For Any Table

37488He shouldn’t be confined to the country kitchen table any more than the actual rooster should be confined to the hen house. The rooster placemat should be free to roam wherever needed. On the card table in front of the TV, on the patio or picnic table, anywhere we serve and look for quick and easy cleanups the rooster placemat is welcome.

When we decorate with the country rooster it is only fitting that our tables show him off as well. More than capable to handle hot plates or soup bowls that might spill or drip the rooster placemat is the perfect solution.

39960Looking through the kitchen window at the fall colors gives us ideas about how to bring some of that country beauty indoors. The seasonal accessorizing of our homes should always include our kitchen. Setting up a pumpkin and some colored ears of corn can help accent our country kitchen accessories.

The country kitchen thrives throughout the year but each new season can bring a fresh sense of what’s cooking through the aesthetic details in our decor. Though they change very quickly between now and the end of the year we can stay on top of each season by ensuring our kitchens look the part.

39726We’ve all seen maintenance workers wearing special gear along with their tool belts. Either hardhats or steel toed shoes, depending upon the specific job, can be essential for safety. In addition to her kitchen apron my wife might benefit from a pair of steel toed shoes when the little ones start gathering underfoot to see what she’s making.

Regardless of what we plan to make, kitchen aprons remain essential gear because unexpected events in the kitchen are rarely neat. So we keep them clean and well maintained because they are a tool of our trade.

31526Most people collect memories along with the many special pieces of kitchen or dining room decorations. The story behind this or that item might be long and involved. Some of the stories might simply relate to why they’ve come to own the item in the first place.

We aren’t always shopping for curio decor, but when something we see either reminds us of an event or possibly someone we know, it becomes special. If a miniature tea set brings back memories of someone special in our lives we usually purchase this as a gift. When the memory strikes closer to home, the set usually follows us back there.

12214We’ve gone through a number of kitchen timers (having kids helps) but they remain one of the most important kitchen accessories to have on hand. In a world of multitasking having senior moments isn’t necessary for over cooking or over looking something that’s been cooking too long.

When we watch our favorite cooking shows on TV the chefs are constantly setting any number of timers placed specifically and strategically around the kitchen. The only thing that we have to remember after setting the timer is to be close enough to hear it when the alarm sounds.

36442When you’ve planned to make a meatloaf and discover you’re out of bread crumbs the choice becomes cook something else or get creative. Having the kitchen storage containers immediately visible helps us to know when they’re empty. When the container is inside the pantry running out of bread crumbs can and does happen.

If you still have bread in the house bread crumbs are only a toaster away. A neat trick that takes very little time and doesn’t upset the dinner plans is making some toast and either crumbling it by hand or in the food processor. Even if you’ve made too much at least you know you’ve got room in the storage container for the extra.
